Obverse - Within a small plain circle in the centre a lion (passant guardant) supporting a shield with the right forepaw. Surrounding this and enclosed in a beaded circle, ELIZABETH STREET. MELBOURNE. and between that and the beaded rim, HIDE & DE CARLE . GROCERS & WINE MERCHANTS. The paw of the lion is just below the E of ELIZABETH, the first E of the latter opposite the vertical stroke of R, the second T of STREET is opposite the T of MERCHANTS.
Reverse - Justice seated on a bale with MELBOURNE, VICTORIA . over and 1857 in the exergue. The scale pans are near the top of the letter E.
DN/T 1199 - Condition Good; Obverse pit mark under G of GROCERS, dent on W and I of WINE and a rim knock at the I; Reverse two horizontal scratches under OU of Melbourne and two scratches from under the N to above right arm of Justice, scratches from under the right arm and hand to the scales and Justice's thigh, scratches right of Justice's left arm and shoulder
