Notes: The work is not signed, titled, or dated. Attributed to J.W. Lewin after comparison with other examples of Lewin's work. For further information, please see PXn 651 Dated from the period when Lewin arrived in Australia. Previously titled from a pencil inscription at upper right, "Native Companion of N.S.W.", though in a non-contemporaneous hand. The bird portrayed appears to be a jabiru [ie. black-necked stork] rather than a native companion (ie. brolga).
