Notes: Edition statement from vol. 2 title page. Half-title reads: The newe atlas. In vol. 2 the last digit of the imprint date is altered to "8", either in the plate (in which case vol. 2 is STC 17828) or in MS. The foliated sections consist of double-page maps with text on back, foliated on the text pages (first recto and second verso of each sheet). The title pages are engraved. At head of title: vol. 1, "Gerardi Mercatoris et I. Hondii." (the "at" is a monogram); vol. 2, "Gerardi Mercatoris". Letterpress English title and imprint slips are pasted over the original engraved French title and imprint. The original imprint read (vol. 1) ".. chez Henry Hondius .. 1633 [or 1636]"; (vol. 2) ".. sumptibus & typis æneis Henrici Hondij.. 1633 [or 1636]". One or both of the imprint slips may be missing. The two leaves before v. 1 fol. 69 are numbered 85, 86; after v. 1 fol. 78 are numbered 57, 76. Vol. 2: 389 numbered as 839; 434 numbered as 396. Mitchell Library copy: maps are hand-coloured. Mitchell Library copy annotated on both title pages: "2 vols. Harry Corles Feb. 1847".
