Notes: A chart of the harbour showing the position of the existing and proposed works to accompany Captain Ward's report made to Major General Sir Thomas Pratt, K.C.B., commanding the Troops in Australia, on the defence of the Harbour and Anchorage of Port Jackson. E.W. Ward, Captain, Royal Engineers, and Member of the Legislative Council was at the time of writing (14th January 1862) the Deputy Master of the Sydney Mint. The Report was referred before the Select Committee on Harbour Defences, Legislative Assembly, on Tuesday 14th July 1863; Captain Ward attended and was examined. The minutes of evidence were printed in the Proceedings, Legislative Assembly, 1863-64, vol. 2, pp. 1041-1088. Additional notes: photocopy of portion of "Votes and proceedings of The Legislative Assembly, during the session of 1863-4, with the various documents connected therewith" relating to harbour defences of Port Jackson and other harbours in the colony, available at MAC 811.15/1863/1.
