Notes: Track extends from Irian Jaya to the Strait of Sunda from where the Marquis Cornwallis continued to Madras and Calcutta. H. Moor [signed] commented on strong westerly currents, and asserted that "the distance between the islands is determined by a good Box chronometer therefore may be depended on." Captain Hogan's Indiaman of 654 tons register with crew of one hundred passed between Papua New Guinea and New Britain from Norfolk Island via the Coral and the Solomon Sea. She crossed between Flores and Sumbawa and followed the southern coast of Java to avoid going through the Java Seas. Hogan delivered a convict transport to Port Jackson in February 1796. In May he sold his wares at Norfolk Island, leaving on June 18, 1796, with four six-pounders and 140 balls from the wreck of the Sirius given him for protection by Governor Hunter. Cornwallis reached England on July 24, 1797 via Ceylon, Madras, Calcutta, Cape of Good Hope, and St. Helena. Henry Moor's reference to 'Mr Robertson chart' means George Robertson's Charts of the China Navigation 1788 or his Chart of China Sea 1791. Robertson was on the Vansittart in 1779-81. Henry Moor later published "Sailing directions to accompany a new Chart of the Mollucas and Eastern Islands: together with separate plans (...) surveyed, in the course of two years and six months stations in those seas, by Henry Moor, assisted by V.V. Ballard" 1801. Moor in his Preface again refers to Robertson: "I do not mean to arraign the accuracy of that well-known and very useful chart, compiled by Mr. Robertson, and which does him so much credit; he was obliged to have recourse to Dutch manuscripts: but where he has been himself, his descriptions are found to be very accurate".
