Script is first half 16th cent French lettre bourguignonne. The date 1526 has been placed by the artist in the upper frame of the miniature on 69r. Decoration is French in style: blue and red entries in the calendar; red rubrics; small capitals alternately in gold on red, blue on red.; large initials also in blue or pink with gold, white tracery.
Small miniatures: 50 x 40 mm. Large miniatures: 95 x 75 mm.
Ruled in red.
Calendar in blue, brown and red.
Foliated in pencil, 19th/20th century.
Provenance: armorial bookplates of the Rev. John Francis (front pastedown) and William Dixson (front free endpaper). Purchased by Dixson from Angus & Robertson, Sydney, June 1902. Thought to have belonged at one time to Bishop Broughton, Francis's son-in-law. Latin prayers in two unidentified 16th-century hands at end.
Binding: Bound in 18th-century green morocco with gilt border. Marbled endpapers (spot design). Binder's title tooled on red leather spine label: Missale Romanum.
