A spurious work purporting to be the log book of Christopher Columbus, which, according to legend, he threw into the sea during a storm, and which was found on the coast of Pembrokeshire 400 years later. Written in antiquated English, with paper and binding made to imitate in color and appearance a volume damaged by exposure to seawater. On imitation vellum. The first leaf attached to front cover. At end, 6 blank leaves.
"Doña Isabel por gracia de Dios Reina do Castilla y Leon, etc., etc. á Don Cristóbal Colon de Génova," supposed letter authorizing his voyage, dated "Granada, á trece de abril de mccccxcij," with attached seal, laid in, as well as an exact copy, on paper, of the original letter from the fortunate fisherman who recovered the journal (from Jonas Cokes to "Elyacht Stok" (Eliot Stock), Sept. fourth 1890)
Issued in container with title: The secrete log-boke of Christopher Columbus : noted and written by himself in the years 1492-1493 : discovery of America, fished up on the 14th of August, 1890, and imitated after the original log-boke.
Published also in German with title: Christoph Columbus Logbuch, als Geheimschrift von mir selbst, für meinen Sohn Diego, vom 3ten August 1492, an, geführt und mit Schildereien und Karten versehen worden. "Aufgefischt von C.M. Seyppel."
