Small portion of charted coastline of Australia named as "Terre du Sud" situated directly South of I. Wesel. "A distinctive feature of the later French school, who followed the design of Tasman, was the addition of Terra de Quiros or Terra Australe du Saint Espirit to form an eastern limit to Australia. Jaillot of Paris was one of the first to do this and was followed by De L'Isle in 1714. D'Anville ... went a step farther, joining New Guinea, Australia, Tasmania and Terre de Quiros into one uninterrupted continent by hypothetical lines.
