Notes: The 'Narrative...' is addressed 'Dear Sister' and the 'Remarks...' which are in the same hand, are signed 'Your Ever Effectionate Bror Wm. Noah'. Judging from the evenness and neatness of the handwriting, the 'Narrative...' may have been written up from a diary that Noah kept on the voyage. A typed transcript (39pp.) is located at DLMSQ 44 and an index to it compiled by Walter Jeffery is at DLMSQ 45 and DLMSQ 70. Another typescript is located at DLMSQ 49 (88pp.). Notes on William Noah and his manuscript compiled in the Library are filed at DLMS 32n.     William Noah was sentenced to death for burglary in 1797 at the age of 43. The sentence was commuted to transportation for life. From Newgate Prison he was taken to the transport ship Hillsborough. During the voyage to Sydney one third of the convicts on board died. Noah arrived in Sydney on 26 July 1799.
