General note
This is a register of all people, whatever their status, entering Norfolk Island. Its purpose was to record the number of days each person was supplied with food rations from the Commissariat stores. Governor King's instructions to the Commissary required such a register to be kept at each branch of the Commissariat and it was called a Victualling...

Administrative / Biographical history
In October 1786, Governor Phillip selected Philip Gidley King to establish a subordinate settlement on Norfolk Island. In December 1789 the secretary of state announced that King would be appointed lieutenant-governor of Norfolk Island. (Source: ADB online)
