Administrative / Biographical history

The New South Corps was raised in 1789. The first contingent arrived in Sydney with the Second Fleet in June 1790. In addition to defending the colony from foreign attack, the Corps' duties included supervising convicts, guarding government buildings and assisting settlers and convicts in emergencies.
