The history of Manly Wharf dates back to 1855 when it was built by Henry Gilbert Smith as part of his development of Manly into a seaside resort. Two years earlier, Smith had acquired two lots of land, one from John Thompson in the heart of Manly, and the other from John Crane Parker which became the Fairlight estate.
