Administrative / Biographical history

John Oxley was Surveyor-General of New South Wales, 1812-1828. He was appointed by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1817 to lead an expedition to trace the course of the Lachlan River.
Sir William Dixson was a notable collector of Australiana and Fred Wymark was a director of the bookdealer and publisher, Angus & Robertson.
