Notes: From `David Scott Mitchell papers' (MLMSS 379) No.1 Young lawyer Ernest Docker (1842-1923) was an unsuccessful suitor of Rose Scott and is probably responsible for this wet plate photograph. Ernest Docker took lessons from his father, Joseph Docker, one of the first amateurs to experiment with photography. -- Curator of Photographs, SLNSW, May 2004 No.2 This portrait was previously identified as "Scott, Augusta Maria, ca. 1860s", who died in 1840. It is possible that the subject of the portrait is Augusta Maria Mitchell (b.1834), the sister of David Scott Mitchell and daughter of James and Augusta Maria Mitchell (nee Scott. 1798-1871). Her sister Margaret Scott was born in 1840. See portrait of Mrs James Mitchell in "David Scott Mitchell : album of photographs of family and friends, ca. 1863-1892" (PXC 831/no.2). The person in this portrait also appears in the same album but is unidentified (PXC 831/nos. 77 & 93). No.4 was previously incorrectly identified as Rose Scott. Digital order no:Album ID : 1045238
