Administrative / Biographical history

The MS Schwabenland (1934-1946) (ex-Schwarzenfels 1925-1934) was a converted seaplane tender used by the German Antarctic Expedition of 1939. The ship was upgraded with a steam catapult which could launch a Dornier 10-Tonnen-Wal seaplane Boreas (D-AGAT).
