Administrative / Biographical history

James Taylor (1814-1885) was the Agent for the Hunter River Steam Navigation Company and a major merchant at Morpeth. Known as "Lord Morpeth", he built a bond store near the bridge, now heritage listed, and his grand residence "Marlborough House".
