Administrative / Biographical history

American merinos were first introduced to Australia in 1880 by W.G. Markham, James Sargent, and C.C. Puffer to buy American merino sheep and sell them in Australia. They proposed to Australian farmers that Australian wool production could be increased by cross breeding with American merinos.
