Notes: In his 1985 autobiography, Rees describes a revelation in his drawing style that occurred while waiting at Pennant Hills for the bus to Parramatta. Having on hand only ivory smooth paper, usually recommended for pen drawing, he experienced “a new sense of the pencil” and “became aware of the remarkable power of line to suggest the essential character of objects”.
