Administrative / Biographical history

Private Percy Morgan (No. 2460) was born in Hounslow, England and worked in Australia as a rural worker. He was aged 21 when he enlisted in the AIF on 18 November 1914. He sailed with the 2nd reinforcements of the 3rd Battalion which he joined in Egypt. The 3rd Battalion landed at ANZAC Cove at 7.30am on 25 April 1915. Percy was wounded three days later and was evacuated to Britain. This letter was written while he was on board the hospital ship S.S. Goorkha.

Following his hospitalisation, Percy Morgan returned to Egypt and was sent to France in March 1916. In July 1916 he was involved in the attack on Pozieres and lost his life on 22 July, shortly after he was promoted to Corporal.
