CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION

Administrative / Biographical history

Rev. Samuel Marsden, pioneer clergyman, missionary, farmer and sheepbreeder, arrived at Port Jackson in 1794. In 1807 he induced the Church Missionary Society to begin work in New Zealand. He pioneered sheepbreeding for wool in N.S.W.
