Born in Northern Ireland, ca 1803, Frederick Dunbar was formally educated in Trinity College, Dublin. He entered the British Army in 1838 as an Ensign and spent several years in India where he married Emma Kane. Emma died in 1839 and Frederick with his 2 sons migrated to Melbourne in 1842.
