Theophile Robert, French Canadian farmer of Montreal, was sentenced to hang for treason by inciting and taking part in a rebellion in November 1838, and for murder during the rebellion. This sentence was commuted to transportation to New South Wales for life. He arrived in New South Wales in H.M.S. Buffalo in October 1839. He was granted a free par...
