ML MSS Al/76 includes notes by Hardy Wilson on this portrait. He purchased the drawing from a Lambert exhibition held by the Society of Artists, Queen Victoria Markets, Sydney, 1912 for five pounds.

Florence Derwent Wood (nee Schmidt), was born in 1873 in Rockhampton, Queensland. A gifted soprano, she travelled to England where she met the British sculptor Francis Derwent Wood (1871-1926). They married on 25th March 1903 at St John's Church, Paddington. They lived until 1908 at 23 Clareville Grove, South Kensington, where their only son, Olive...
