Administrative / Biographical history

Herbert Vere Evatt (1849-1965) was born in Maitland, NSW. Educated at Fort Street High School then Sydney University, he became a lawyer and judge. He left law to enter politics and won the Sydney seat of Barton at the 1940 Federal elections, representing Labor. In 1941 he became Attorney-General and was Deputy Prime Minister in the Chifley Ministr...
