Administrative / Biographical history

Sir Evan Nepean, 1751-1822, was Under-Secretary in the Home Office at the time of the foundation of the colony of New South Wales. His brother Nicholas arrived in Sydney in 1790 in charge of the first detachment of the New South Wales Corps, and was in command at Norfolk Island for a short period during 1793.
